IntelliHeat - How It WorksAll IntelliHeat radiators use the same technology to provide responsive, efficient electric heating. Three key components work together to produce the extremley high levels of efficiency that make Kalirel radiators truely unique. Each radiator is fitted with a Tungsten element that absorbs energy quickly but slowly emits heat to the fluid, therefore maximising power usage. Each radiator is filled with a Thermo-Dynamic fluid which is designed to rapidly heat up and expand to cover the entire heat exchange surface, resulting in 100% hot point effect. The Thermo-Dynamic fluid also has high heat retention which allows the energy absorbed to be used for the maximum period of time. Each radiator is fitted with its own intelligent thermostat that allows manual control if required. Each thermostat is equipped with a lockable option, thanks to the Kalirel electromagnetic key supplied with each radiator.
When operational, the radiator will draw full power until the required temperature (set on the thermostat) is achieved. This is normally within 10 minutes. At this point, the radiator will cease drawing power. The Thermo-Dynamic fluid will have rapidly expanded and the radiator will now have 100% hot point effect. Due to the elements slow release of power and the fluid's heat retention qualities, the radiator will continue emitting heat. At some point, the radiator will drop below temperature, the thermostat senses this and operates the element to draw more power. Intelligently, the radiator calculates exactly how much power is needed to return the temperature back to the desired level and therefore, will only draw that exact amount. For example, if a 1000w radiator has dropped below the desired temperature and the radiator has sensed that only 250w are required to return it to the desired level, then the radiator only draws 250w and not 1000w. Subsequently, by a radiator sensing when temperature is reached and ceasing power and then only drawing the exact amount of power as and when required, it uses power consumption in the most efficient way possible. Therefore, when a 1000w radiator is installed in a room that has been calculated to require a 1000w radiator, if switched on for 8 hours to maintain a room temperature of 21 degrees, it will only use approx. 2 hours of electricity. Classic Range Control Options Each Radiator comes with a flex pre-wired to the thermostat. The flex is wired as follows: Brown = Live Grey = Neutral (to be sleeved blue in accordance with B.S) Black = PILOT WIRE The radiator thermostat is “class 2” , double insulated and therefore, earth should not be connected. If the radiator is to be a “stand alone” item, it can simply be hard wired into a switched / fused spur. In this situation, the Black Pilot Wire is not connected to any terminal and should be insulated. If the radiator is to be controlled independently, there are various types of “socket box” programmers available on the market. Grasslin manufacture a digital or mechanical model which has proved very popular with installers and specifiers. In this instance, the radiator is wired to the programmer and the programmer would be fed from an adjacent mounted switched / fused spur. The programmer would then be set to supply power to the radiator at the required on / off times. This particular method of installation has proved popular with clients as it minimises the level of wiring when using existing outlets and also provides total control of every radiator to be able to work completely independently. In this situation, the Black Pilot Wire is not connected to any terminal and should be insulated. If the radiators are to be controlled by a centrally mounted programmer, then a special Pilot Wire Programmer should be purchased (such as the Micro Driver 2H FP from Delta Dore). In this instance, if existing outlets are to be used, then a new pilot wire must be run back from every radiator to the programmer (via a junction box where the pilot wires are split into zones and then 1 or 2 zone cables are fed to the programmer). If new wiring is being installed then the installer must run 3 core and earth cable. The earth cable should be terminated in the back box and must not be connected. The live and neutral would be connected as normal and the 3rd core (usually black) would be connected to the pilot wire on the radiators’ flex. The pilot wire should be separately switched, so that it is able to be isolated. Therefore, at each point of use, there would be a switched / fused spur for the live and neutral supply and an adjacent unswitched / fused spur for the pilot wire. The pilot wires would then be connected as described above. In most cases when new wiring is installed, the installer will use 1.5mm 3 core and earth cable as this is easier to work with and can carry up to approx. 16 amps. Each IntelliHeat radiator has a maximum 10 amp rating. Wireless Controller Each radiator is fitted with a Zigbee radio receiver that communicates with the wireless programmer. Thus allowing the user to control any radiator, anywhere in the home from the comfort of their armchair. The wireless controller allows for each radiator to be set up individually with a 24 hour, 7 day programmer. The user can also pre-set the comfort level temperature and background temperature of each radiator independently. For example, the lounge radiator could be set at 21 degrees from 4pm to 6pm and at 17 ½ degrees from 6pm to 10pm, the hall radiator could be set at 18 degrees from 5pm to 7pm and at 14 ½ degrees from 7pm to 11pm, the bedroom radiator could be set at 14 ½ degrees from 4pm to 8pm and 18 degrees from 8pm to 10pm. This level of control is unrivalled and is designed to allow the user to maximise their efficiency in their use of power consumption. Additionally, whilst saving money by using energy more efficiently, the user is also maintaining comfortable levels of heat throughout the home at all times of the day. The programmer is easy to use with EasyPilot technology, that means operation is through a menu and option screens in a similar fashion to a mobile phone. Each screen also has the added bennefit of a help option - by simply pressing the help button, a full operation description is displayed. - v Zigbee wireless technology
- v 24 hour / 7 day programmer for each radiator
- v Up to 4 zone capability
